What is the third most spoken language in the world? It's Spanish. There are more than 500 million Spanish speaking people worldwide and the numbers are growing. The United States alone has at least 57 million people who speak Spanish. The fastest growing segment of the U.S. population are the Latinos. They are growing at the rate of 7% per year and the population is expected to double by the year 2018. The Hispanic population will soon overtake the baby boomers.

With that in mind here are 5 good reasons to learn the Spanish language.

1. If you are a business owner, salesperson, or marketer, can you overlook the possibilities that are presented with 57 million people who speak Spanish? If you do, you are leaving a lot of money on the table. Marketing and offering services to the Hispanic population can increase your commissions or profits.

2. Enjoy vacations and have more fun in Latin America and Europe. Do you like to travel? Imagine how much more fun you would have on your vacation if you spoke even some basic Spanish. If you like people you will enjoy getting to know Latinos. They are happy and hard working. If you try to speak to them in Spanish just watch their faces light up. They really appreciate that you are trying to communicate with them in their own language.

3. Improve your job skills. Learning Spanish will enhance your position in the job market. Your enhanced language skills may get you hired, a raise, or a promotion. Some positions in various government jobs pay a bonus for proficiency in a language other than English. For instance, U.S. Customs and Border Protection pay their CBP officers up to 5% of their base pay if they use and speak Spanish on the job.

4.Prepare yourself for a changing world. The demographics are changing, as noted above, the Latin population is growing by leaps and bounds. Why not be prepared for the multitude of business and social opportunities that are being created every day?

5. Love and Romance. If you are single, and looking for a Latina or Latino, connecting with that special someone, would be easier if you spoke a little Spanish. Through the internet, finding your mate in the United States or Latin America is easier than you think. There are many companies on the internet that will arrange your vacation in the country of your choice and line up your romantic prospects for you to meet in person.

Economic opportunity, vacations, improving job skills, a changing world, and finding the love of your life, are all very good motivators for learning to speak Spanish. Don't put it off, start today.
